Bifrost Summit 2024 - Silicone Valley

Event Type:
Workshop
Details:
At the Bifrost Summit 2024 in San Francisco, an exhibition and workshop delved into how AI could influence a diverse and vibrant culture amid extreme climate disruptions. Speculative Designer Bettina Schwalm and Institute for the Future (IFTF) Research Director Ben Hamamoto explored the role of Speculative Design within strategic foresight, using the "Signs of Change" project as a case study. This project utilizes future urban signage to establish new connections between extreme climate disruptions, AI technology, and culture, highlighting future-making as a collective endeavour. Swedish Silicon Valley-based tech entrepreneurs and technology startups collaborated in small groups during the ’Signs of Change’ workshop. Guided by our proprietary future-building toolkit, each group selected a sign and its corresponding future scenario to analyze. Through guided workshop formats, participants examined the impact of the depicted sign and scenario at personal and organizational levels. They then synthesized their findings into a shift statement outlining changes from the current state to a desired future state. This process informed the creation of their future roles and responsibilities within their organizations, fostering the development of creative and resilient cultures driven by forward-thinking perspectives.
